The new Cybersecurity Act brings the European NIS2 Directive into the Czech legal system, which aims to unify cybersecurity regulation in the EU and improve the ability of member states to respond to threats and incidents.
As a result, several thousand Czech companies are currently preparing for the new rules of protection against cyber-attacks.
The legislative process in this context is still ongoing. The bill has been discussed in three parliamentary committees in recent months. The committees propose to limit the powers of the National Cyber Security Authority (NÚKIB) in partial respects in favour of the government. While NÚKIB should remain the main expert guarantor in the field of cybersecurity, the government’s role in this area should be strengthened, for example in deciding on the designation of strategically important services or the scope of availability.
The bill and its suggested amendments are now awaiting a second reading in the Chamber of Deputies. If the amendments are approved, it is possible that the bill will undergo the above stated changes. We will continue to monitor the legislative process.
